Watts Naval College North Elmham
« on: Saturday 08 July 17 12:15 BST (UK) »
Good morning,

Does anyone have accesss to the admission records for Watts Naval College?
I am looking for the record of Vernon Claude Calland-Scoble who was born 19th September 1903. I have a Naval record listing the ships that he served on but I am particularly interested to know what information was given about his parents when he was admitted. I can see the records are on Familysearch but can't seem to get to them.

Many thanks for any help you can give me.

Thank you to you both. Every piece of information adds to the story.

I know who his parents were and can trace them up to and after his birth in 1903. By 1911 Vernon had been left with maternal relatives in Norfolk. His Mother remarried as a widow in South Africa where she had 3 more children, his Father had two more children in Australia. Vernon lived his life  knowing nothing about his parents. My interest is to know whether he was admitted to Watts as an orphan or anything else that admittance form might tell me about his abandonment by his parents.

Once again many thanks.

Thanks. I remember planning to get in touch with Barbados and not doing it. That's what I should do. I was approached by somebody yesterday who is hunting for Naval records of Vernon's cousin. That's what got me back to where I was in 2008. I hope that you are having a good Saturday. I should be cleaning ready for a family visit but I am easily distracted.

Family research can have a tendency to take over our 'normal life'  :)

Enjoy the family visit!
