Travelling companions
« on: Saturday 08 July 17 12:46 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm tracing a woman who was a maid, and travelled abroad with her employers.  I've found her on a passenger list but of course these are alphabetical, not organised by party.  Doe anyone know if there's any where of finding out who she was travelling with?

Many thanks

The arrival list in the USA lists the people alphabetically but the list of people leaving Liverpool on 25 May 1925 is not alphabetical.   Ellen is listed between a schoolteacher and a nurse maid.

On the arrival list Ellen's destination is given as Skaneateles New York and on the next page she is listed as going to see friend Mrs Dreen?? Long Oak Lodge,  Skaneateles New York

Hi Kay
It's possible that Mrs Dreen was a friend of her employer rather than her (although not impossible she had friends in US). Worth chasing up, thank you.

If - and this is a long shot - you could see the full passenger lists for both the outward journey and the incoming journey - and there are other people on both lists, that may help to draw up a list of possibilities for her employer. Just a though....
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

Have you found her on the census, she might be living with her employers

Thanks for these suggestions. Part of the problem is I don't have her in the 1911 census. I've checked her employers from 1901 & it doesn't look like she was still with them. I shall have a dig around for outward bound lists though.
