I think this is why you cannot find Abel Barrow. He is I think Abel Hampson - Mary's (who was born Mary Hampson daughter of Thomas Hampson) son as is Thomas. Both Abel and Thomas, plus another Thomas who was born and died in 1864/5 are registered as Hampson with mmn = Hampson

though still have not found him yet in 1881

Yes there's a lot of swapping of names.

There is an AbeZ Hampson in 1881 living with Mary Bond, the daughter of Isabella Barrow/Hayes).

Still after Joseph's marriage and death though.

Mary Hampson married William Bond in 1876

Abez is a mistranscription. It is Abel on the image and Thomas Hampson is there as well.

Bashlad.

The entry in 1911 shows Joseph Burrows - nephew. This ties in as a sister of Joseph Barrow's (Elizabeth Ann) married Joseph Burrows snr.

There is a marriage between Mary Pearson and WILLIAM Barrow in 1878....in Leyland.

Also census shows 4 child deaths of which there are 4 on LancBMD in Leyland....

Hi, yeah, I forgot to reply.

I was looking at the service records on ancestry. Although FindMyPast and the rest probably have access to them as well.

That marriage doesn't look like a match however

Marriage: 19 Sep 1878 St Andrew, Leyland
William Barrow - 20, Flagger and Slater, Bachelor, Leyland
Mary Pearson - 20, Spinster, Leyland
Groom's Father: Henry Barrow, Parish Clerk
    Bride's Father: John Pearson, Farmer
Witness: Thomas Pearson; Margaret Ellen Barrow

WHITEHOUSE- Bromsgrove, WANE - Eccleston, TOWERS - Blackburn & Ribble Valley, COLLINGE - Rawtenstall, THOMAS - Penzance, Whitehaven, Haslingden.
