John GALLAGHER - Immigrant from Glasgow, Scotland
« on: Monday 10 July 17 00:50 BST (UK) »
Hello All,

I'm trying to find information on my Great-Great Uncle John Gallagher. He was born on the 07 August 1906 in Glasgow, Scotland to parents named Eugene/Owen Gallagher and Teresa O'Connor. He emigrated to Australia sometime in the 1920s or '30s I think. I don't know whereabouts in Australia though.

Sadly, this is all the information I have since he quickly lost contact with all the family here in Scotland. I'm hoping to find out if he married and had children, and also when and where he passed away.

Any help much appreciated,

Tony

No middle name I'm afraid. All the information I have is in original post. I'm hoping there will be some way to find out about him though.

Hi Tony,

Do you know if he travelled from Glasgow/Greenock/Liverpool or any other port?

I forgot to ask...

Do you know if he was single or married when he immigrated?

Hi Annie,

No idea what port he left from. He was single to the best of my knowledge.

Cheers,

Tony

Tony,

I had a look on 'Blindmypast'  ;D

There are a multitude of Gallachers all with only initial 'J' in 20s!

Is there anyone you could ask where possibly in Oz he was heading?

Can I also ask....

How sure are you that he did go to Oz?

What was your source for that info?

Sorry for the questions but sometimes questions can jog memories with others  :D

Hi Annie,

Two of his nieces say he went to Australia, but when he left he never was in contact with the family again.

I had a helpful message from another member there though (thanks to them) and I think I'm on to something now. There was a John Gallagher who arrived in Fremantle aged 17 in 1923. This may well be him!

Cheers,

Tony
