Can some one help me locate the cemetery that my Uncle James may be buried in.
The registration was done March 1956  in Plymouth .

I have looked at  cemetery grave searches on line and can not find anything .
I am getting quite frustrated as not as easy to do as they are in NZ to find.  ::)
if someone can help I would be extremely grateful .

There are two main cemeteries both with crematoria as well as conventional burials at Efford and Weston Mill. You could e mail Plymouth Council Bereavement Services to enquire what their search fees would be for searching for an entry in their records [an actual date of death would reduce cost rather than only March]. Their search fee would be subject to an additional 20% VAT cemeteries@plymouth.gov.uk

Additionally a large Victorian cemetery, Ford Park is now used again for burials, it is administered by a charitable trust. After the WWII it became very overgrown and neglected and in more recent times "rescued" by the Trust. Some burials although lesser in number continued until the 1950/60's so my suggestion is to try PCC as a first resource and then try  FPC. See http://www.ford-park-cemetery.org/GraveSearchSide1.pdf  the form mentions enclosing a SAE but if you use the search service you may need to use International Reply Coupons supplied by your postal service if you are based outside the UK.

In the countryside near to Plymouth is Drake Memorial Park - no headstones, just plaques as markers. It is run by a private company and they offer an online search facility see http://www.drakememorialpark.co.uk/burials/search.php

Also note that the death registration was in the March quarter.

So the death may have been in January, February or March, and indeed may even have occurred in December the previous year!

Thanks guys I will look at these places and see what turns up. Never gave it a thought the death could date  back to December the previous year .

Cheers

A December death is unlikely - but possible! ;D

Deaths must be registered within 5 days, in England and Wales.
The GRO Indexes are based on the date of Registration.
