« on: Wednesday 19 July 17 19:44 BST (UK) »
Does anyone use WinRar file archiver utility? When I try to extract rar archive which was e-mailed to me, I get the following error: "Packed data CRC failed in volume name. The volume is corrupt."

anyone have had similar issue?

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Its been a while since I've used WinRar but this  error is most commonly caused by a transmission failure corrupting the file. Have you tried the Auto Repair function in Winrar - it's under tools or just use Alt + R

There are various solutions available and a lot of videos on YouTube claiming to solve this type of problem but many of them appear to require third party software, I've never used these programs so can't recommend them.

The simplest solution would be to have another copy sent to you

Its very often a case that you download a huge file split into small .rar files. When you download all of .rar files and attempt to extract the contents then occurs this famous error “Packed data CRC failed in .rar. The volume is corrupt”.  Thus actually indicates that one of the downloaded .rar file is corrupt and not the whole .rar files.
In this situation use this software:
