The attached, is a witness signature at a Marriage of an Elizabeth King and Michael Soanes, an Oxfordshire marriage. It looks to me like 'Hester'. Can anyone, please, help me decipher it?

Nestor?

Thanks Mike, a possibility. Pity, as I do not have a 'Nestor'

No but I do have an Esther, which is sometimes interchangeable, but maybe I am grasping at straws!!

It's not too clear from your clip, but the 'X' in the middle would seem to indicate this is not her signature, but that she has 'marked' and whoever wrote the entry has written her name. Is this writing the same as the rest of the entry?
In which case, if she said 'Esther', the clerk may well have written 'Hester'.

Sounds very feasible.

Hi Goldie,
Thanks for your post. I agree with Mike that it sounds feasible. I have other ESTHER's and Hester's. If they were illiterate then no one was going to correct it.
