Interestingly on Jean's death record on familysearch, her husband is transcribed as Henry INMAN. Possibly an error depending on who the informant was, or maybe he was also known as Henry?

Couple of interesting passport applications for a Martha Elizabeth Inman - first one in 1918 - born 4 September 1869 Nova Scotia - spouse name Nelson S Inman - claims Nelson deceased in Oxford Massachusetts 6 June 1892 

Interesting because the son of Louis and Jean was Nelson Sandford Inman

Could the couple have parted and Martha called herself a widow or did they divorce   
The 1910 census does say Louis had been married previously.

I also wondered about this as a first marriage: in the 1900 census there is Louis INMAN aged 40 with wife Harriet (aged 26) and daughter Florence (aged 1). Louis is a "? agent", and born in Massachusetts, however it says his parents were born in England. (Louis is a salesman in the 1910 census).

There is a Florence Mary INMAN birth to father Louis (aged 34, born Massachusetts) and mother Martha Elizabeth SMITH (aged 21, born Nova Scotia) in 1891, which ties in with the Martha INMAN that Sandra found.
