« on: Tuesday 25 July 17 13:35 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am enquiring about my great-great-great-grandfather, William Sands. He was born in 1815, in Manchester, and died in 1863, in St. Luke's, Middlesex. I would appreciate any information on his parentage.

Thanks,

Hello,

I am enquiring about my great-great-great-grandmother, Mary Sands (born Thompson). She was born in 1817, in St. Luke's, Middlesex. She states that she was married to William Sands (1815-1863), but I can locate no marriage record. She cannot be found on the 1871 Census, and I cannot find either a death or another marriage record. I would appreciate any information on her parentage, and what became of her.

Thanks,

Adam McGregor

Can't help with the parentage question.  However, the GRO give his age as 46, when he died in 1863, which gives a birth year of 1816/7.

Do you have a copy of his will?  Mary Thompson Sands was his widow, address was 24 Great Arthur Street, St Luke and his death date was 12 April.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

I'm afraid I don't have a copy of his will. However, it confirms my belief that his wife was a Thompson, having used the GRO website, which gives maiden names for children. I've started a separate thread for her. Not sure what became of her after her husband's death. I can't find a marriage record, so could her use of her former name suggest that they weren't actually married?

Thanks for that. I haven't been able to locate an 1841 Census record for the couple, so there's no clues to their parents.
