Finding the hospital or location of birth?
« on: Wednesday 26 July 17 06:55 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

I'm trying to find where my mother was born in 1950, she has no idea and has no way to find out from living family anymore. I have found her birth register online but it only shows the district of birth - Cheltenham - any idea who to contact about further information?

Cheers,
Ash from Australia

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

That information will be on the Birth Certificate.
There is no way to look at the certificate - you must purchase a copy.

Cost is £9.25, including postage to anywhere in the world.

Would your mother not have a copy of her birth certificate somewhere - for emigration/immigration/pension, etc. purposes?

Thrice welcome to RootsChat.

My UK Passport shows the name of the Welsh Village I was born in (locates my birth place to one of 40 houses in 2 streets).

Are you using
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

It allows you to order birth certificates for International delivery in about 15 days.

Pejic ~

Do you have an Eng & Wales birth cert though?  I assume that the OP's mother would have one for various admin, etc. purposes, which was why I was querying the need to purchase another one.
I have mine safely filed away and it is of an older vintage than the OP's mother's  ;D

Need to be careful as we are talking about a living person. If the parents are identified, so could Ash's mother.
