How to find a recent death
« on: Wednesday 26 July 17 18:30 BST (UK) »
Which site has the most recent death search please?

I'm looking for one (may still be alive not sure) say from now to 7 years ago.  Not found any newspaper announcement.
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Indexes for recent years are held at these places only ( a search of the site should show this has been asked many times before)

Library of Birmingham
Bridgend Local and Family History Centre
City of Westminster Archives Centre
Manchester Central Library
Newcastle City Library
Plymouth Central Library
The British Library

Ancestry does claim to have indexes post 2005/6 but they are not the official indexes they are cobbled together from a number of sources, are full of mistakes and the coverage is nowhere near as complete as they claim - still they may be useful to narrowing down a search if you have a sub to the site
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

You might also find a reference on the government's Find A Will website - https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills

This is updated frequently - when I checked a year or so ago, it included details of a probate (and death) that had happened within the previous 3-4 months.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Don't forget newspaper announcements. Many of them are available online these days.

Check www.iannounce.co.uk  and www.bmdsonline.co.uk

Just checked and there's an announcement relevant to my ONS from TODAY's Birmingham Mail.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

Census information is Crown Copyright. See www.nationalarchives.gov.uk for details.
