Tooley of Lincolnshire
« on: Thursday 27 July 17 12:28 BST (UK) »
I have a Charles Tooley in my tree, born in Boston in 1818. His father was John Tooley, born around 1774 and died in 1845 in Boston.
I was looking at the Lincolnshire baptisms and have a few possibles for him - 1774 in Coningsby, 1774 in Sibsey and 1777 in Boston.
I have some research from a distant family member who had him down as the one born in Coningsby. I'm revisiting this side of the family and now I'm not sure and really want to prove this.
Has anyone here either got any tips or maybe is from the same family and has verified research?
Thanks in advance.

The 1777 Boston may be safely eliminated as there was an infant JT buried there that year.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

It is good to have all names of the Children to establish a possible Naming pattern for John Tooley and Sarah Atkins Parents;

Baptisms
To JOHN/SARAH Tooley, Boston;
JOHN 1797, buried 12 Dec 1797
ELIZABETH 1798
CHARLES 1800, Father a Boatman, Mother Sarah Adkins, buried 1 Nov 1802
SARAH 1802
MARY ANN 1805
MARIANNE 1807
NAOMI 1808, Father now a Labourer, Mother Sarah Adkin
JOHN-ADKIN 1811
ROBERT 1812
ELIZA 1815
CHARLES 1818

GRO Index has these 2 Death Regs;

TOOLEY, JOHN  STOTHARD, age    72
GRO Reference: 1845  M Quarter in BOSTON  Volume 14  Page 193

TOOLEY, JOHN, age 87
GRO Reference: 1849  S Quarter in BOSTON  Volume 14  Page 179

So born c 1773 and 1762***

The 1845 Reg is likely this one;
Jno Tooley Or Stotherd christened 1774 Sibsey to John Stotherd and Rebecca Tooley

All on FreeREG

Except that the age is way out on Death Reg if the 1849 one is your John I would say by naming pattern his Parents are JOHN/SARAH so the Conningsby one looks good to me.

Thanks so much to everyone for your replies. They're really helpful. I'm going to print everything out and check it against my existing research.
