Many thanks for the information about Jane. She's not a direct relation being the 2nd wife and I a descendant of the first. The pain here is that before 1801 there are no parish records for William if his blood is from Wolverton, Hants. Years ago, the parish cleric told me that he never found the book. I wanted to look under his house, but he was just leaving to fly off to Singapore.

I had a good look around and there are certainly gaps in the records.

Have you considered William may have been Baptised Kingsclere? Its only 1 and a Half miles from Wolverton.

I see that he married Diana Long there 2 Feb 1804.
Then they Baptised Wolverton;
MARIANNE 11 March 1804
JOSEPH 2 March 1806

Now another point is William must have been older than 1851 Census says to have married 1804.

I cannot find a baptism for William Wickens in Wolverton, Kingsclere or any of the surrounding villages in Hampshire. Just having a look at 1851 census his place of birth is not clear but I think Wolverton in Hants looks as good as anything. It is possible his baptism was not Church of England. On his first marriage in Kingsclere on 2 Feb 1804 he was recorded as "of this parish".

There is this baptism which might be your Jane:

Place: St Nicolas Church Newbury
Name: Jane Cook (born 15th April 1801)
Baptism Date: 10th May1801
Parents: William and Mary Cook

This looks like her in the 1815 Joseph Toomers Census:

Abode: Almshouse Yard West Mills Newbury

Mary Cook aged 34
Mary Cook aged 20
Jane Cook aged 14<<<<<<<<<<
Charlotte Cook aged 8
Eliza Cook aged 4
Mary Ann Cook aged 2

There was also a Jane Cook aged 12 working as a servant at Litten (Ladies Boarding School) Newbury in the 1815 census but there was no baptism for this Jane Cook between 1799-1810 in the parish records for St Nicolas Church Newbury.
