Hi Sandra

You are so fast at this, but I also found James Henry and Mary's burials at:

 http://www.interment.net/data/us/ny/albany/albrural/albany-rural-cemetery-records-wh.htm

There are thousands of burial listed for Albany and it information like place of birth and death.

Thank you again.

Hello All

Lookng for Seth Whitehead on the New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957. Cannot find it of Family Search.

Details: b. 1831 in England. Year of immigration 1856, Age: 25

Would it be okay if I asked for the name of the ship?

Warm Regards
Karen

Sandra

Hi Sandra,

My research is the Winterbottom Family which has been traced back to 1650. One of the my purposes is to highlight them in a family context, when they are in each others presence as adults, eg witnesses at each others marriages, informants on death certificates, executors of wills etc. I've even been able to demonstrate that there was 29 of them living in the same village at the same time.

Once the industrial revolution arrives, they spread out, moving to different cities, counties and countries, as it happened. But I have been able to show times when they come back to each other, eg baptism parties and entered as visitors on census and that they remained connected.

So I have been hoping to show that Henry Edward Winterbottom (b.1831 Saddleworth), Mary's younger brother, also went to New York and that he is the Henry Winterbottom at Cohoes on the 1860 & 1870 New York census (Mary being on the 1860 & 1870 New York census at Troy with her husband).

Several rootschat members have very kindly found Mary and Seth Johnson on New York passenger lists, but I have not been able to find evidence of Henry Edward's immigration to New York.

amv228 found a Henry E Winterbottom buried in Albany, New York in 1874 died of consumption aged 43, born in England and resided in White St, Cohoes, NY. If this is my Henry Edward Winterbottom then that would give me more evidence that the Winterbottoms were a close-knit family.

It would show that the brother and sister from a little village in Saddleworth were buried at the same cemetery in New York in adjoining sections.

Your research has been really helpful to me as it showed why Mary died in Hamilton Ontario but was buried in Albany New York.

My grandfather, Jack Lewin Winterbottom (1898 - 1986), immigrated to Australia when he was 12 years old. He knew almost nothing of his family in England, not even when his father died or where he was buried. He missed having family. I was given a book of his in which he tried to draw a family tree, but he didn't even know where and when his father was born. I've been doing this for Grandpop. He had a big family and they were close and they supported each other.

So in short, I don't intend to include the Whitehead children of Ontario on my tree :-X. They are beyond the scope of what I have been trying to achieve.

But the information you have given me has been really useful and I am very grateful.

Yours sincerely
Karen

Look-up Henry Edward Winterbottom 1861 Census, Paddock Huddersfield....................

Thread..............http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=775951.0

The earlier passenger lists don't give enough information to positively identify if the person belongs to your Winterbottom family.  There were a number of entries for Henry Winterbottom some went to Philadelphia but they can be identified as a different Henry. This could be a possibility in 1856 - same ship as Seth Whitehead - Henry Winterbottom - labourer - aged 26 years - New York City on the J T Nectult - 18 Nov 1856-31 Dec 1856
