However, Rootschat is a forum that allows everyone to express their opinion whether others like it or not. There are plenty of threads on here that I get bored with, so the simple answer is I don't read them!

Perhaps one day, if people keep posting about how to post, those who are guilty may read one of the threads and realise that they are annoying others by their lack of good manners. I certainly wouldn't name them on a public forum, but would either PM them or contact a Moderator and ask them to intervene.

I agree with groom. I find the "not another thread on this" replies quite tedious unless it is a constant look up request on the same thing. Just dont read threads that you may find boring.

I am helping someone find their ancestor and they have acknowledged my posts which is good but I did help someone prove a link to aristocracy and got no response and they have logged in since.

Slightly off topic here but as for professionals, well I feel we do better jobs that a professional researcher. I had one and she found random instances of a surname of interest and charged me for it, and the area was of no interest. Always start from the area they came from then work backwards. She found a person with a Coombs surname in Derbyshire in the 1600s and charged me for it and back then I was still stuck in the early 1800s in London. I never used her again. Better do the job yourself.

Topics like this one occur with tedious regularity. I don't understand why those who are so exercised by ungrateful rootschatters don't simply start an ongoing thread that outs them by name.

That's probably because the problem persists with tedious regularity and getting it off one's chest with others who are similarly affected does reduce the frustration that this behaviour creates and it just might prick a few consciences.
Some of us do share a "Black List" of repeat offenders who we no longer offer help to...but there is always someone out there who will still offer them help.
The very grateful many make up for the very few ingrates and that's why we carry on regardless

Possibly, much as some of us might like to do that at times, I am positive that the Moderators would not allow it, nor should they.  It is not in the general ethos of RC.  As Treetotal says - we all have our "black lists" of people we choose not to help respond to.
