Marriage look-up request, 1850s Henry Beckwith & Catherine ?
« on: Friday 04 August 17 14:35 BST (UK) »
Henry Beckwith was born in Liverpool, UK, in 1831 and was around for the 1851 census.  By 1861 the next census details give him a wife, Catherine, born in Cheshire, UK and a son Henry, born in Australia.  As the marriage of Henry and Catherine does not appear in the UK marriages, I suspect they married in Australia, before the son was born around 1857.
I have no more details of locality, but hope someone may be able to steer me in the right direction for finding the marriage and, less importantly, of the son Henry's birth.
Thank you.
Ainslie

Australia newspapers have the marriage in 1854:
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/4809311?searchTerm="Henry%20Beckwith"
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/4809311?searchTerm=%22Henry%20Beckwith%22

He was "of Melbourne" in 1854 and she was "fourth daughter of the late Hugh Wallace of Knutsford, Cheshire".

Victoria bdm shows the birth of son Henry in 1856, confirming Catherine's surname as Wallace.

There was also a daughter Kate b. 1855, but she sadly died aged just 18 months:

He possibly arrived Nov 1852 on the Ballarat, listed as Mr Henry Beckwith.
also there is an outgoing passenger list, March 1858, on the Norfolk - Mr and Mrs Beckwith, with a servant + an infant.

A number of marriages of the Wallace siblings can be found reported in Trove but of particular interest would be the 1857 marriage of Jemima Wallace, daughter of the late Hugh etc etc, married a Thomas William Beckwith of Melbourne, son of the late John Beckwith of Liverpool -

Henry BECKWITH is on the 1856 Electoral roll for Victoria, three times, so I assume he had at least three properties.  I assume this is your man owing to his occupation, place of residence which is the same as the place given for the birth and death of the children in 1855/6.
