1939 Register
« on: Tuesday 15 August 17 17:13 BST (UK) »
Has anyone been successful in opening up information on a person on the 1939 Register that has been  closed, without a certificate. I have a person who was born 1897 so would be 120 today, surely this information should never have been closed in the first place, so why should I be expected to pay for a certificate. They died in 1981 by the way. Also do they regularly check to see if anyone has gone over the 100 year stipulation and open up that record?

Have you contacted FindMyPast? The "rule" is that records are opened when the person is 100 years plus 1 day. It may be that the date on the actual record is wrong and that is why it is still closed. I still can't find my grandmother, who would be 133 on Friday! The rest of the family are there but she's missing.

If you can see where they are supposed to be and it is blanked out I would certainly query it with FindMyPast.

The rest of the family are there on the Register and the blocked person is the second person on the household list with her husband first and two daughters after, so I'm convinced it's her. I will contact FindMyPast as suggested, thanks for your replies  :)

Just had an e-mail from FindMyPast asking could I rate how they had dealt with my enquiry, so I have sent one back telling them if and when they answer my enquiry then I will rate them. Talk about jumping the gun. Will keep you posted if they ever reply  :-\

I found one person on there whose date of birth had been transcribed as 1927 when he was actually born in 1907 (the month and day were correct) - as it was he died in the 70s and they had opened his record, with him being 20 years younger than his wife
