I notice that many items about Adam LANDELLS on TROVE newspapers have been tagged as well as a public trees.  Do you have a tree online?

Cando

There are several people who have tagged various Landells at Trove. I have contacted some, but wasn't aware of trees at Trove (will check).
I do know that one or two persons are specifically interested in Adam Landells.

[.....his marrying an Elizabeth Dibbs soon after (possibly to look after the surviving children, the eldest of whom was not much younger than Elizabeth Dibbs).

How could that be?  Wasn't Elizabeth DIBBS born c1815, so aged 35 when she married Adam LANDELLS, and he was 37?

Trees online are not on TROVE ::)

One of the many online tree has a son Walter born to Elizabeth in 1847 in Newcastle NSW.  Perhaps that needs some investigation.  I tend to treat online trees with caution unless they are have events sourced.

How many years in Australia and each State should be noted on Elizabeth's death certificate.

That Walter was born in Newcastle, Northumberland, UK, and was the son of William and Ann LANDELLS.  Some people have no idea and just click on anything and link it to their tree.  ::)

This suggest her name was Elizabeth (Dibbs) Margaret Landells (born Barlow), 1813 - 1877

Yes, my notes show I looked at those individuals in September last year (my Landells connection is to Alnwick, in Northumberland). Possibly from MyHeritage or FamilySearch and w/o sources.

A narrative published by Daphne Eades in The Journal Of The Northumberland & Durham Family History Society Vol. 7 No. 4 September, 1982 has this:

"The whole family left for Australia on the ship "Douglas". It was a bad trip and many died, so
many in fact, that the ship came to be known as the "Black Douglas". Margaret Douglas died only two days after her baby son William Burns,  and poor Adam was helped with his four children by one Elizabeth Dibbs, who had also lost her husband some time previously on the same boat."

I haven't been able to find a mention of the part that I have underlined.

The marriage of Elizabeth Dibbs and Adam Landells in August 1850 has her age as 30 (similar entry in FindMyPast - marriage at the Congregational Chapel), and a both of them (w) which I understood to be widow/widower.

LANDELLS Adam, 37 (w), married DIBBS Elizabeth, 30 (w), on 1850-07-27 at Cong Chapel, Adelaide

Interestingly, I found the marriage several times at SA but this exact form only at this link, with a search for either Dibbs or Landells -

As a followup to the Maguire v Maguire case and Miss Dibbs, another report specifically refers to Miss Dibbs as an Irish orphan who "came out in the Constance".

No Dibbs mentioned on the ship's passenger list:
