Robert Linton of Craigmore 1911
« on: Wednesday 16 August 17 13:07 BST (UK) »
Second opinion please.

The 1911 census shows the family of Robert John Linton and Annie Kissick to be 4 children the youngest William C K aged 3. This fits with William Charles Linton born 14 Jun 1907. One child died pre 1911.

My question is, if the missing child is Matilda Kissick Linton born 14 Jan 1909, why is it that it is William Kissick Linton whose death is recorded on 24 Jan 1909?

Something doesn't add up.

Linda.

Hi Aghadowey

Yes I think Robert was confused but I haven't worked out how exactly he made the mistake.

The child who died 24 Jan 1909 was recorded as age 0 on the index record and I think 2 weeks old on the actual record. Which means the child should be Hannah, and female not William and male. You would think Robert would have got the gender right even if he didn't remember the name correctly.

There is a tree on Ancestry which says William C K Linton born 1907 died in 1993, was married and had a child. I think the source was probably a family member so could be a case of mistaken Linton but I think more likely that the wrong child's death was registered.

The Lintons who were my mother's cousins were the family of Samuel J Linton and Rebecca Dougherty. Robert was a brother of Samuel J Linton. I only looked at the extended Linton family recently as another Linton (son of yet another brother, Thomas Linton who married Mary Bell) got confused with one of Samuel and Rebecca's sons in another tree in Ancestry. All the same names born at  around the same time, can get very confusing. On top of which at least 3 seem to have married Kissicks. William Charles Linton, brother of Samuel and Robert appears to have married Margaret Kissick though I have not found that marriage on ?14 Mar 1904, Boveedy, Derry.

Cheers

Linda

Married 1907 not 1904-

Who is Hannah? William, age 13 days, died 1909- link posted earlier.

Will have to check a few things in Linton file downstairs later.

Hi,

Thank you for Wm Charles Linton marriage date. I was reading the date from Kim Linton's Ancestry tree. Wm Charles Linton (snr) died 1937 in Winnepeg Canada.

Sorry I meant Matilda not Hannah. Matilda Kissick Linton was born 14 Jan 1909. Yes I have seen the death of William but that is what bothers me. I do not see how he could have died aged 0 in 1909. Actual age appears to be 13 days. Date of death was 27 January according to GRO (not 24 as I thought from Irishgenealogy image). So 13 days before 27 Jan was 14 Jan, which is Matilda's date of birth.

I do not usually extend my tree to include siblings of spouses, unless I think there may be another family connection sometime earlier.

In this case I have hopes that Martha Jane Dougherty, daughter of William of Carrowreagh, and mother of the above Linton brothers, plus several more, may one day connect to my gt grandfather William John Dougherty born Coolkeeragh, father of Rebecca Dougherty who married Samuel J Linton.

Cheers

Linda.

Hi Aghadowey

John Linton who married Martha Jane Dougherty is recorded with the rest of his siblings and parents in a derived 1841/1851 census.

So I can confirm Samuel and Catherine Linton (though not her maiden name) Probably married 1825 as per 1841 census not 1828 as per 1852 census.

Their children are as you have listed with Jane aged 15 in 1841.

Samuel had a previous wife Biddy, who died 1823. It seems they had a son Daniel born 1821 who died 1840 aged 19. (as recored on census).

Catherine who was not born in 1841 and aged 5 in 1851 was the pension claimant.

I have also Jane's marriage to John Torrens as I think it is their daughter Catherine who married John Linton, son of John Linton and Martha Dougherty.(Dougherty spelling was used for first 6 or 7 children of John and Martha).

There was a comment on possibly on the KimLinton tree that Thomas Linton (who was 11 in 1841 and 17 in 1851) and Martha Linton were first cousins. I think that was from someone who belonged to that branch.

I have not followed up the rest of this family myself.

Cheers

Linda

By the way

I think Nancy Jane Linton b 14 May 1866, is the Annie Jane Linton who married James Bloomfield on 23 Aug 1898. Family in Hervey Hill in 1901. Killygullib on children's births and Annie's death in 1907.

Annie Jane Linton was also the witness at the marriage of Thomas Linton to Mary Eliza Bell on 3 Oct 1895.

So I think this is one instance where Nancy translates to Annie rather than Agnes.
