Right let's say Frederick wasn't my grandads father, is there any way I could find out? Apart from Fredericks name crossed out on his birth certificate ::)

Your best bet is the divorce papers.  Frederick seems to have departed a couple of months before John's birth so could have been his father.  The divorce petition may set out children of the marriage and the timing and circumstances of its breakdown.

Would that not be what has been shown to me already?

I don't understand the question, sorry.  Have you already got the couple's divorce papers?  I posted a link to the National Archives file reference earlier.  I am suggesting that ordering those papers if you do not already have them would be your best bet for finding out what happened in the marriage.

Is 1921 not the date of lodging of the Divorce Petition? Could it be that it took a few years to actually reach Decree?
