Sands Directories cover from 1858 to about 1933 and can help with family history...  :)  The City of Sydney has these uploaded on their website, free to search  :)

William BALSHAW listed at Oberon St, Randwick in 1914, I have not looked further.   :)

"The City of Sydney has now obtained a complete digital edition of the directory from WF Pascoe Ltd, scanned from the microfiche, and is making it available for public access." (SAG e newsletter 30/3/2014)

http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/learn/history/search-our-collections/sands-directory
and a great search facility and pdf downloads too.... ;D

I think that this link can be added to the NSW Resources board after it has come to the notice of the regulars here at RChat  ;D

A tree on Ancestry has Kezia married to Gerald Shepherd born 1859 Ireland died 1931

Military Records for Gerald Shephard birth date 25 January 1922 Sydney
Next of kin Koyia Shephard

Tree has a death for him  2013 Queensland

Rosie

Rosie, does the tree say where Gerald died in in 1931? I can't find any reference to marriage of death for him.

Also, if he had a daughter who died aged 6 in 1920, her birth should be on a BDM somewhere as she would have been born in 1914. If they had Dorothy in '14 and Gerald Jnr in '22, were there other children in between?

Gerald was much older than Kezia with her being born in 1888 and he in 1859.

Added: No headstone inscription for Dorothy.

Could someone explain what this may be a record for?

It is Gerald Snr I believe: https://recordsearch.naa.gov.au/SearchNRetrieve/Interface/DetailsReports/ItemDetail.aspx?Barcode=9717393&isAv=N

MT1486/1 = Applications to enlist in the Australian Imperial Force

Seems in 1916, when aged 44, Gerald SHEPHARD (of an address in Sydney) sought to enlist in the AIF.

Barcode 9717393

That NAA file is 'open' access and stored Melbourne.

Possibly not digitised simply because no one has applied for it to be digitised.

Thank you, JM.

Pity he didn't succeed as we may have got and address for him.  :(

He must be somewhere. I can't see a marriage for them on FreeBDM either.

During the course of the First World War standards for age, minimum height and minimum chest measurement for enlistment in the AIF were altered.

The requirements in August 1914 were 19–38 years, height of 5ft 6in and chest measurement of 34 inches. In June 1915 the age range and minimum height requirements were changed to 18–45 years and 5ft 2in, with the minimum height being lowered again to 5ft in April 1917.

I checked Sands search and no joy there. Also, didn't show at Rookwood either.
