Assuming your friend was adopted, has he got his adoption file?

No he wasn't adopted he was brought up by the D.Consterdine and grandmother

Are the birth certificates both originals passed down in your friend's family or are one or both copies? I have had errors on certificates I've paid for so if that's the case a surname could be miswritten.

They are both copies so yes possible errors just had a feeling it may have been an error due to the person hiding their identity

Have you tried looking for her birth in Scotland or Ireland?

I have looked on scotlands people and in the ancestry Irish records with no luck. I feel I'm searching for a person who doesn't have that name tho. And ancestry DNA test has reavealed a 1st or 2nd cousin where no names match his tree (theirs is heavily Irish ancestry but Northumberland and Leicester being the more recent regions)

The person has not replied to messages

I've used my imagination, so if she was a "working girl" you would think she would have been known to the police and may have been in custody a few times.

What about criminal registers or police gazettes or newspapers looking for the name as either a legitimate name or an aka.

Does your friends' early Medical Records not provide any clues?

I have a DNA match on my Ancestry that is a 3-4th cousin and I have no idea where they are related. They didn't reply to messages either. I eventually contacted various Ancestry trees that included that person's branch and asked if they had any ideas- through this, I was told that my match was actually an elderly woman who didn't go online much any more and put in contact with her daughter. I'm still none the wiser at this point, but as far as DNA goes, someone else related to the target person might have some ideas.

I am trying to find my friends mother.

On my friends birth certificate the details seem normal but on his brothers (who passed away as a child) the mother's name is Veronica Barbara Anne SOUTHERN, but against the informant column it says V.Thurston Mother below the fathers name. Surely these are the same person?

It is all a mystery anyway as this person doesn't seem to exist and lists address as a home for unmarried mothers and babies in London, she wasn't around much longer after the two births

The informant does not need to be the parent of the child.  On My fathers birth certificate the informant was his aunt, his mother's sister.  She is named and her relationship noted.  Could the informant be the grandmother?  The mother of the babies mother.
