Clary/Cleary
« on: Thursday 24 August 17 13:05 BST (UK) »
Good morning,

I'm throwing this out here in hopes it might ring a bell for someone.

I've been searching for my 3x Ggrandfather, Matthew Clary for many years.

The only document I've ever been able to find with anything other than Ireland listed is his US naturalization record. It did give me County Kings as a location. I'm assuming that could be birth location or just the location he lived in before he left Ireland.

Matthew Clary (spelling changed to cleary soon after his arrival to the US)
Born about 1835. Roman Catholic.
Left Ireland in 1851. Left Liverpool the same year and arrived in the US in Oct. 1851. Sailed on ship Montezuma.

There was a Catherine Clary possibly a sister who was on the same ship with Matthew however I've yet to be able to connect the dots.

I have most of the records that I can find from his time in the US before he died in 1877, but can't narrow down the info I've gathered from Ireland.

Would love to hear from someone who possibly has Clary's from county Offaly in their family. Crossing my fingers!

Hi,
I am not from the Clary Clan, sorry, but I try to help.
the Tithe records show 3 Clary people in Kings.
Surname   Forename   Townland/Street    Parish   County   Year
Clary         James       Seefin Prospect            Birr           King's   1823
Clary         Judy          Frevenagh            Durrow   King's   1828
Clary         Denis         Ballaghanshu        Reynagh   King's   1833
you would have to look in
http://registers.nli.ie
look for Leinster on the map click in and you will see Offaly.  Search for the Parish and you may see the pages.

And Yes Catherine aged 20 did travel with Matthew aged 22,  I checked the dates 18th Oct they arrived in New York. Catherine is listed as Cath. I searched by the ship name and the year. There isn't a document available just the typed record.
