Folkstone PR
« on: Thursday 24 August 17 15:49 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am trying to establish a link between my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather and Folkstone.
He was Henry Burton b 1771 (ish) and he has a link to the surname Hutchinson (possibly mothers name) and possibly Folkstone although he lived a lot of his life in Falmouth and died there.
He was possibly a mariner. He married Elizabeth Taylder in Falmouth and had numerous children
(Have all this info).
Are there any possible births in Folkstone  or marriages around the 1770 era between Burton Hutchinson or similar? Thomas, Mary and Rebecca are significant family names as is Henry of course.
I know its a bit vague but any help,is much appreciated.

1841 Falmouth - Not born in County  ???  Occupation then was Gardener

Do the childrens baptisms give an occupation.  Why do you think that there is a Folkestone connection

Thanks all,
Yes it is frustrating that he just missed the 1851 census.
The whole family were mariners and I figured he turned to gardening on his retirement from sea.
There were a few Henry Burtons all mariners. I know he wasnt born in Cornwall and think he may have sailed around to there. There are some Burtons in Folkestone during the correct timescale, some familial christian name matches and his daughter went to live in Folkestone for a while. All conjecture sadly but I have been looking for his birth for years. Two of his children had Hutchinson within their names.
