John was buried in a fall as the night shift was was about to stop work, about 5 tons of material collapsed and 2 hours later he was found to have crush injuries and suffocated. The death certificate states that John died from injuries to chest and shock. He left a pregnant widow and four children. Marion Howden Howison was born about 2 months later on 4th May 1916. John was well known in the district having been a former employee of John Stein and Co as well as secretary to Cumbernauld United Football Club. Margaret Calder Howison later married William Hickie and lived in Castlecary until she died on 21st May 1949. The death was reported in the Kilsyth Chronical on the 25th February 1916.The source is from an online tree here
