[There is a marriage in 1920 for one Bertha Marie Dobbie but I think I was probably climbing the wrong tree with this one.]

Yes  ...  climbing wrong tree  ... this Bertha Marie DOBBIE (m. Christopher Finlayson HUNTER) died in 1966 and is buried with her husband (d. 1952) at Wyndham Cemetery, Southland.

Just wondering if a funeral directors record might still these days list all marriages.

I think back to a look-up I did at the Auckland Library of a funeral directors register and these were listed albeit with dubious 'facts' on age at marriage etc 

Was there a death notice?

Lu you have confirmed that Alexander Edward Theodore & Alexander Edward Tudor were one and the same as I suspected.

Nothing at all being queried.    The fact that marriage number three to GREEN took place under the name of ERKELL rather than ANDERSON is even more confirmation that this is the correct Bertha Mary.
