Help with marriage cert. of Lillias Campbell & John Fenwick
« on: Tuesday 12 September 17 16:16 BST (UK) »
I am struggling to read the marriage certificate of Lillias Campbell and John Fenwick. I am curious to know where both of them are from (I can only read Port Glasgow and Greenock) and what is written beneath Lillias' father's (Charles Thomson Campbell) name?

I apologise for the quality!

I think her address is Briarbank , Port Glasgow.

Below Charles Thomson Campbell I think it says " cashier, Corydon, USA" . Corydon is in Indiana.

Does that seem likely ?

I'm not sure. I know Charles went through several jobs but just in Scotland. He was a commercial traveller and a fish merchant in Greenock. His wife, Euphemia, passed away in 1908 and I have information from the 1911 census saying he was living in Greenock with two of his sons and Lillias. He died in 1931 so I have a huge gap where I don't know where he was or what he was doing. He died in Greenock and his death cert. says he had another wife (or partner, it did not specify) whose name was Bettie. Some of his family did go to Canada, though.

I believe this is the birth of the daughter of Charles' son, who shared his name. Charles Jr. got married in 1914 and had a daughter named Mary in 1916.

There is a marriage in 1914, but this could be for a son Charles Thompson Campbell who was born in 1885 and given the same name as his father.

Yes, that is his son's marriage certificate.
