Kendrick - Dudley
« on: Friday 15 September 17 21:11 BST (UK) »
while tying up loose ends I discovered my Ancestor James Kendrick b 1841 in Dudley had different parents to what I first thought. I think there are 3 of them around at the time. This one I discovered with his mother Sarah Kendrick (nee Peters) and his grandparents on the census. Then I found a marriage for a Samuel Kendrick and Sarah Peters in Dudley now I can't find a baptism for Samuel. I feel like I have exhausted all my sources. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Thank you

Hi angel~eyes

while tying up loose ends I discovered my Ancestor James Kendrick b 1841 in Dudley had different parents to what I first thought. I think there are 3 of them around at the time.

Do you mean, there are 3 x James KENDRICK children born Dudley around 1841?

I only see the one on FreeBMD and GRO - March Qtr 1841, Dudley, mms PETERS.    Did your James later marry and name Samuel Kendrick as his father?

This one I discovered with his mother Sarah Kendrick (nee Peters) and his grandparents on the census. Then I found a marriage for a Samuel Kendrick and Sarah Peters in Dudley now I can't find a baptism for Samuel. I feel like I have exhausted all my sources. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Thank you

Just curious as the reason you believe this James KENDRICK, son of Sarah nee PETERS, is your ancestor as opposed to the person you originally thought he was?

When and where was the marriage of Sarah & Samuel?

You are trying to find a baptism of Samuel?
Do you have him on a census, indicating when and where he was born?

Cheers

Hi I believe there are 3 born in different areas of Dudley around that time. There was an error in surname spelling which is why I missed it. The one who is Sarah's son is closer to where my family are now and where I know James lived once he was married. I have not found a marriage for James who married Eliza Brazenhall in Dudley. On all census James ia born in Dudley or Tipton x

I'm still only getting one KENDRICK/KENRICK in and around Dudley (Worc/Staff) on FreeBMD/GRO. What other version or misspelling of the name do you have?

KENRICK is  on the one you mention where James is with his (presumably) maternal grandparents - though relationships not stated in 1841 - for our reference:
1841:  HO107 - Piece 1196 - Book 5 -  Folio 22 - Pg36
Wellington Road, Dudley, Worcestershire
James PETERS 65. Collier
Eleanor PETERS 60,
Elizabeth PETERS 13, Semptress
Sarah KENRICK 25, Semptress
Hannah KENRICK 4
Samuel KENRICK 2
James KENRICK 4 mths
All born in county, except little Samuel.

Do you have the family in 1851?

MARRIAGE 1836
: Sedgley Staffs, 4 April 1836, Sarah PETERS & Samuel KENDRICK.

You asked about a baptism for Samuel .....do you have him on any Census? Or anywhere else other than as the groom's name on the 1836 marriage?

Cheers

The only way to be sure is to buy a copy of the 1872 marriage cert or visit the records office and look it up in parish records to see who he names as his father

Transcript of the marriage is on Ancestry - states James Kendrick and Eliza Brazenhall married 1/4/1872 Dudley and I'm afraid that aforementioned Samuel Kendrick is not his father.

James' father is shown as William Kendrick and Eliza's father as Joseph Brazenhall.

Found a possible family but would need some checking out:

1841 Census - Sedgley, Staffordshire

Wm. Kendrick    33      Roller     Not born in county
Rachael Kendrick  28                 Born in county
Hannah Kendrick 6                     ditto
Elizabeth Kendrick 5                   ditto
James Kendrick 9mos.                ditto

1851 - William and Rachael in Tipton, Staffs. although no James with them (but neither is there any death entry for him - checked 3 deaths between 1847 and 1858 but none the right age for him).

Birthplaces for their children shown as Sedgley but all their children (quite a few) were baptised in Tipton.   Aforementioned James was baptised as Elijah James 18/10/1840 Tipton, his birth registered Sept.qtr.1840 Dudley but un-named and listed as 'Male' Kendrick (GRO shows mmn Downes)

Marriage between William and Rachel Downes took place 25/12/1833 Sedgley, Staffs. but his surname has been transcribed as 'Hendrick' on familysearch.

Best I can come up with.

Thank you for your replies. For some reason my original parents were William and Sarah and he did have a sister called Hannah. Incidentally so did the James son of Samuel and Sarah. Will try  and get marriage cert otherwise thank you Annette will look at Rachael as His mother x
