There seem to be two occupations and two people

1871 - we have him as a boarder and a machine turner

There is also ...

1871
John Walmsley born Heap is a Roller Coverer married to Nancy

1881
As brother in law - he is a Roller Coverer

1891 - Iron Turner

1901 as brother to MB - Roller Coverer

Thankyou Heywood for your thoughts on Mary Hannah.
Assuming that the John who died in Liverpool aged 23 is not John W junior and the John W who died in Bury aged 50 is John W senior, then it is likely that the 1871,81 and 91 census' are John junior.
On the 1860 marriage certificate and the 1863 baptism of Mary Alice, John is a mechanic, and in1861 an engineer.
It seems likely therefore that the metal Turner is my man and not the roller coverer.
Unfortunately, as John W is married throughout the 71/91 period and minus Mary Hannah it seems likely that she was still on the scene somewhere, perhaps living under a different surname, or overseas.
At least now i Know why they were not together in the 1861 census, Mary was a serious spend thrift!!
I wonder if it was John junior or senior who was in financial trouble?
Thankyou all again and any further thoughts really appreciated.

Good evening Heywood.
I notice that in one of your posts you mention an 1851 census record for the Walmsley family which confirmed Mary as a daughter rather than a daughter in law. She would be 7yo. I have been unable to locate this record so if you have would you mind letting me know the transcription detail please.
Thanks.

Heywood gave you the 1851 census reference on reply#12

I will repeat it here for you:-

Piece No.  2215   Folio No. 186  Page No. 24

Find My Past have transcribed the name as Wakerley but careful inspection of the image shows the name to be Walmsley.

Thanks Girl Guide.
Got it now, I was looking for "Walmsley". Don't currently have a subscription to "fndmypast" and am using "family search" for census records.
Cheers.

Walter.          Son u 6
George.         Son u 4
Elizabeth A.   Dau u 1
Sarah Street sis in law.   RG/9.   2891.   F 88. P34

There is a death in Manchester in 1859 for a Martha Ogden aged 41 so about the right age. I'm trying to place Mary Hannah family to see if she's around.

Good morning Tassie.
The Ogden family, my maternal branch, is a can of worms.I am currently in Brisbane and my research notes are in Auckland so bear with me. Clearly, Mary Hannah was a problem girl and very quickly upset her husband. Like father like daughter as they say.
David Ogden married Martha Heathcote c.1835, ages 17 and 19. There were 4 children:-
1841 William Henry.
1842 Mary Hannah.
1844 Walter, died early on.
1847 Sarah Frances, died age 8.
Sometime late 1840's David commenced a relationship with Mary Street. There were 5 children:-
1849 Sarah.
1852 William Henry, my g grandfather. Yes, same name as older half brother.
1855 Walter.
1856 George Valentine.
1859 Elizabeth Ann.
Notice the repeat of some of the names.Nasty Mary who registered them.
Mary registered the children with a mixture of the surnames, Street and Ogden.
Her sister Sarah lived with them for many years.
Martha died in the workhouse in Manchester in, from memory, 1859 and then David married Mary. Mary died in 1871/2 and David in 1873.
Where Martha lived whilst David lived with his mistress I never discovered, poor women.
So was Mary Hannah a chip off the old block?
It took me a long time to get to the bottom of David Ogden and his extended family. I did enjoy the journey however.
You can probably understand my wanting to track Mary Hannah down!!!
Cheers.
