railway accident - james hodson
« on: Saturday 30 September 17 15:50 BST (UK) »
I just found out by a member of my family news about my late grandfather james hodson.  He was working on the railway when he was hit by a train and was in a coma for 3 weeks. looking at 1916 to 1928 would there be any records about this accident

looking at 1916 to 1928 would there be any records about this accident

If he was a railway company employee (i.e. not working for an independent contractor), there should have been a railway accident inquiry. The Inspector’s report should be filed in series RAIL 1053 at the National Archives (not online). But unless you know the railway company and can narrow down the date, it could be an extended search.

Have you found him in any of the railway employee records online (Ancestry), as those would at least identify the company he worked for?

Do you know in what month and year he died?  At least that will narrow down your search.

A report published in 1912 says there were 390 railway employees killed at work in the previous year, and 5311 injured,  I doubt it was any different in the period you are looking at.

If you cannot find his record then newspaper reports may be the best source.

right let me try and get this right he moved to south wales in 1940 when he retired in 1960's he was a signalman my familymember is saying he worked on the railways all his life and the accident took place before her mother was born in 1928 in Tottenham. It could be possible she got it wrong and the accident happened after 1940 in s.wales
