Wilfred Oakes
« on: Saturday 30 September 17 20:08 BST (UK) »
Hi

this is a picture of Wilfred Oakes, the quality isn't great sorry! Its quite an old photo in an even OLDER photo album that i have of my great Nana's.

Wilfred Oakes 1921-1977
lived in Cheshire.

he was in the WW2 and in this photograph,

it has something like

"Ismal" on the back, with 22nd May 1941 as the date.

not sure if you can make anything else out, but if anyone knows anything about this photo or Wilfred himself that would be AMAZINGGGG :) x

If he was born in 1921 then his WW2 service record will be with the MOD;  you can apply for a copy cost £30.

I think it is Ismalia on the back of the photo.

He can't possibly have served in WW1, as that war was from 1914-1918?

For Service Records see:
https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records

You'll need his death certificate, and £30 ;D

and yes! at first i thought it was Ismal but when i searched it on google, Ismalia came up.

i can't believe he could of potentially of been there! he was born in a quiet little town! Ismalia is a far way away from cheshire :O

Going by my uncle's RAF record there will be personal details....date of birth, next of kin, address, previous occupation and religion. Also courses taken, promotions, where he was posted (bit like a billiard ball....all over the UK!) Then MIA and the date, followed by confirmation of death.   :'(
