I can't find a marriage for a Grace Waters(t)on with surname Johnston or Hutcheson
Did you try Grizel and variants?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Forfarian,

Yes as I used only letter 'G' to cover all spellings to cover Grace/Grizzel/Grisal or any other combination but actually maybe not on that particular marriage as I was pretty tired by then  :-\

Annie

Added....I do know I used only 'Jo' & 'Hu' to cover Jonson & Hucheson

So there was a Jean/Jane 1840 also?

John Haddon, 94 (Haddow I presume)
Catherine Waterston, 55
Jean Waterston, 21
Mary Waterston, 16

JANE Waterston likely married Peter STRACHAN 10 October 1862, Hamilton, Lanark
+ another possible;
MARY Waterstone* to John SHIELDS 0 December 1864   High Church, Glasgow, Lanark

Will see if 1871 Census matches pob for Jane Strachan and Mary Shields.

Trish,

I was sticking with one name at a time rather than confuse myself or others & I couldn't find a marriage for Grace in England/Wales although I haven't searched any census' other than 1881 in Scotland & of course you have the 1871.

Thank you all so far........

Annie - Catherine Waterston's death was registered by her son-in-law Peter Strachan (he's my great great grandfather) he lived at 16 Church Street, Hamilton at the time of her death.

Alexander I don't have a death certificate for him however have been told by family members his death was on 26 July 1862 in Hamilton.

John Waterston married Helen Gordon Russell - he served in the military and met her in Edinburgh where they settled and had a family.
