Help Please with Identification of Regiment from Photo
« on: Sunday 08 October 17 16:27 BST (UK) »
I was given this photo recently by a family member and I think I know who the gentleman is.
It was probably taken between 1900 and the outbreak of WW1.

Thanks.

Agree, agree.  Buttons not very distinct but the outline of the RA gun with scroll below can be made out.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Thank you all very much.

You have just confirmed what I thought.

He is Alexander Patrick, my Great Grandfather. He was born in Fife in 1874 and first joined up in 1889 at the age of 15 years and 4 months. He came out in 1895 but re-enlisted in 1900 and made the rank of sergeant shortly afterwards. By 1905 he had reached the rank of C.S.M. He was posted to Orkney (R.G.A.) in 1910 with his wife and 9 children. Firstly to the Island of Sanday and then to Kirkwall where they remained until 1919.

I have been lucky to get a copy of his Service Record.

Again, gents, thank you.

A very fine record of Gunner service and right at the end his rank was Warrant Officer Class Two and he had the appointment of Acting Master Gunner Class 3 which was a tad senior to the same rank appointed Company/Battery Sergeant Major denoting emphasis on gun management rather than man management.

Thank you MaxD for that extra piece of information.

He died in 1936 and is buried in St. Andrews, Fife and a few weeks ago I was able to visit his grave and pay my respects.
