Coster, Marylebone 1841 on but where from?
« on: Wednesday 11 October 17 11:28 BST (UK) »
Trying this again after some years and working back from death rather than birth. Joseph died 12 August 1849 aged 60 in Burns Place Marylebone of Cholera, his then wife Hannah was present & the informant. Seemingly they married at Paddington 28/6/1846 she being Hannah Constable a widow and previously Wheeler. A Hannah Coster dies in Marylebone workhouse of paralysis 10/8/1864.
So back to Joseph, 1841 sees him at Providence Place Marylebone with then wife Sarah Piercey who dies in September 1841, and children Elizabeth 1818, Eliza 1826, Thomas 1828, Mary Anne 1830, George 1834, Martha 1838 all born Marylebone. The children went to live with Elizabeth upon the mother's death. Has anyone links back from any of these? I have possible parents for Joseph being Joseph & Mary with a birthplace of City of London (1841 shows him not born in Middx) but this is pretty much a guestimate based on being roughly the right age and place. A number of Coster descendants lived in Providence Place up to the 1880s. Does anyone recognise any links to a Joseph b abt 1790 m Sarah amongst their  Marylebone & elsewhere Costers? Thanks  Pete

If you have the marriage that Louisa Maud gave you his father is William, not Joseph.

OK, so "your" Joseph was not born in Middlesex (if 1841 is correct) and dies before 1851, so we cant find where he WAS born.
He ends up in Marylebone, and he has a father called William who was a labourer.

1851 has these people:

1851
18 Chalres Street Marylebone
William Castor 29 widower servant bn Berks Reading

He is in the h/h of a Mary Caster , who describes herself as "wife" with no head of H/H

next door is
Charles Caster 23 mar journeyman upholsterer bn Berks Reading
Sarah 22 wife bn Cheltenham

I see a pattern of Costers moving from Reading to Marylebone.

May be nothing to do with yours, but I wonder if your Joseph came from Reading?

Though, he was a lot older than these wasn't he?
