Want a 2nd opinion on what this baptism record translates to.

Don't want to give anything away but the attached baptism record is one that I wasn't expecting so can I have a full translation of it from Latin back to English. At least one parent is 'unexpected'

Now this is interesting the father is Gilfradius Power or Geoffrey Power to a daughter Mary......but what is the rest of it......and were there witnesses to the baptism i.e. over and above the parents being named.

His forename is written Galfridii, which should be the genitive singular for a masculine -us ending forename.

That is:  of Geoffrey

At this resolution I'm not sure what the words are after Whittle, so can't help with the significance of the last set of names.

One other point - her forename is written Johannae (maybe, the word-ending isn't clear).

That would more likely be Joan or Joanna/Joanne than Jane.  I have mostly seen Jane in Latin as Janam/Janae.

I was reading mother and father to be Geoffrey and Joanne or Joanna. I am trying to establish what follows i.e. if the sponsors to the birth, is one John Whittle?. The thing that really has thrown the cat among the pigeons according to the baptism is Joanne. I was expecting it to be Mary because in the civil register it shows Mary was the daughter of Geoffrey Power and Mary Whittle.  Puzzled !

Either there is a genuine error in the parish register or she was using another of her names.

Unless I am badly mistaken, the only Mary mentioned is immediately after the Bap.  So there's probably an error in one of the sources.

There appears to be another Johann? Power in the second list of names.

The problem is that the gender can't be determined without a clear reading of the word ending.

Is it a John or a Joan?
