Looking for any information on William Stainsby b. 1887 Islington.  He was single in 1939 and living in The Huts Birch House Terrace High Street Chelmsford.  Does anyone know if this building was a hostel or workhouse or the like.  Cannot find any death records etc after this he just seems to have disappeared.  Does anyone have any tips on how I might try to find out what happened to him.  Usual avenues have been tried.  Many thanks.

I think they may have been industrial housing/workers cottages.google "Industrial Housing In Essex 2006 - Braintree District Council" as during the 1870s housing was built for the employees of Carey & Birch Steam

Interesting read here, but The Huts not mentioned.  Possibly you could email them.

Hi

Welcome to rootschat

I can't give information from the 1939 register but have you checked the address on the original copy as the transcript may be wrong

Hi Rosie
I have the 1939 census and the address is correct.  Just don't know where to look after this.
