Is Ancestry behaving strangely?
« on: Sunday 22 October 17 02:00 BST (UK) »
Is it only me or is Ancestry doing an odd thing today?

After a search in  any of the categories (e g immigration, census collection etc), when I use the 'edit search' option, instead of the correct screen for that coming up, it defaults to a universal search to search all records held.

Hope they do not think it a "new improvement" to the Ancestry facility because it is not. ::)

Can someone test and see if it happens for other subscribers?

Doing a few other weird things today including not finding information that is definitely there - probably some maintenance happening in the US. I have found their support folks (the calls go to the US) very helpful in navigating the site and subscription issues but they  have little any knowledge of technical issues - which are usually resolved without intervention by me.

Come back later is a good option.

Don't know whether my problem is related to the matter discussed here.
When I’m on the “All Results for XXXX” screen in Ancestry I can no longer edit the search by pressing “r” on that screen. (Can’t remember what that function is called.) It’s necessary to go to “edit search”. Is this happening to anyone else, please? Fran

Yes Fran this has recently started happening to me.  Using IE11.  Sometimes I use Chrome and the "r" keyboard shortcut has never worked for me with that browser.  Like the majority of website designers I think the teenagers at A*y imagine all their users have fully functional fingers and eyes the same way they do.

Before I retired I was in an IT department and when the bank I worked for launched e-banking, accessibility was a very important part of it - nobody should have to click more than a certain number of times to get at whatever they wanted to do, also colours should be fairly high contrast rather than subdued and transparent.  All gone by the wayside in the name of progress  ::)

I use the sync function via the new FTM and the orange "sync not advisable-try again later" warning has been around for days "due to unreliability in Ancestry systems"
