It looks like Cuggins to me too but I suspect it should be "Coggins", which is a surname I recognise.

It looks like Cuggins to me too but I suspect it should be "Coggins", which is a surname I recognise.

Except that the 'o' doesn't look like the 'o' in Thomas further up the record.   

So, although I've never heard the name before, I also am going for Cuggins.  What year is the record from?

 . . . .  the internet search for Cuggins suggests the surname might now be extinct . . .which presumes it had a life at some stage.  ;)

Another vote for Cuggins - which of course could be Coggins with a broad accent ??? ???

Thank you all:) this extract is from a death record in Scotland however the lady in question was born Ireland c1796 so Irish names ..poss from Ferm il post the full cert ..looks like a u like u in Rutherglen

You are right - it does look like other 'u's in the record.

And some people spelt/spelled as they heard . . .so  . . . . .   'Coggins' could have been heard as 'Cuggins' I suppose.    :-\ ;)
