Elizabeth Grimes nee Seaman
« on: Thursday 02 November 17 15:05 GMT (UK) »
Hello.

I'm trying to find out more about Elizabeth Seaman.

She was born in South Creake in about 1803, to Thomas Seaman and Martha Savory. She married William Grimes 11 March 1828 in South Creake, had one child in 1829, who was baptised in 1833 in South Creake, but that is all I can find.

There is also 2 other William Grimes marrying Elizabeth's. One in Worstead, the other from Cley, unfortunately, their census entries are the only William and Elizabeth Grimes I can find.

Thank you

Kirsty

what can you tell us of the 1829 child?
at the moment, you've not even given him/her a name.
have you located this child in census? Marriages? Deaths?

Sorry I was concentrating on not forgetting to include about the other 2 William and Elizabeth's that I forgot to add that  ::)

His name was William Grimes, born 11 Apr 1829, baptised 01 Feb 1833

In 1841 he is living in South Creake with a Barnabas and Elizabeth Shackleton, and then in 1851 he is with his grandparents, Elizabeth's parents, Thomas and Martha Seaman in South Creake

Barnabas and Elizabeth Shackcloth (surname mistranscribed on Ancestry) were surely William's mother and stepfather.

Barnabas Shackcloth married an Elizabeth Grimes in March quarter 1841 Walsingham Reg. District.

So presumably William Grimes senior died before 1841 (or he deserted her and was legally declared as dead after 7 years).

The families were well aquainted, when William Grimes married Elizabeth Seaman 1828 one of the witnesses was Ann Shackcloth, the other Robert Gibbon.

Using the new GRO index, there is a William Grimes died age 52 in 1837- September quarter registered at Docking which covers South Creake.
If this is him then he was 42 when he married.

Thank you for this.

I've just found the burial for the William Grimes you mentioned, in Great Bircham, it could be him, thank you.

I've found the death of Barnabas Shackcloth in 1873, along with his will, saying he lived in South Creake, and also Elizabeth in 1890, but I can't find either of their burials at the church. I've found the monumental inscription for Barnasbas's first wife Catherine, it says she is at "South Creake United Reform Church"  ???
