Which Aungier GOTOBED married Sarah WATSON in 1856 in Ely?
« on: Wednesday 08 November 17 08:09 GMT (UK) »
One more request on behalf of the GOTOBED family...
I am trying to discover which of two Aungier GOTOBED's married a Sarah WATSON in 1856 in Ely.
In the 1841 Census in Annesdale next door to one another is an Aungier GOTOBED aged 9 living with his family, father namesake Aungier, a waterman; and an Aungier GOTOBED aged 10 living with his family, father John, a waterman.
The other Aungier (the one whose family line I'm not trying to trace!) marries a Hannah CHAPMAN in 1851, in Ely too, I believe.
So is anyone privy to that marriage entry of 1856 who could tell me who the father of the groom is, either Aungier (senior) or John, both of whom married women with the MEASURES surname by the way...
Many thanks,
Keith

Rosie,
Thanks so much for that lightning (and enlightening!) response.  Very happy to discover that Aungier's   father was John...
Very best wishes,
Keith

Does Aungier's name suggest a Hugenout origin? I ask because my 2x GGM was surnamed Moule, and her family came from the town in Cambridgeshire associated with the Hugenouts.

Hi Keith,

I've only just come across this thread and am new to this forum. I am a descendant of the Aungier Gotobed who married Hannah Chapman.  He was my 3x great Grandfather. Just wondering what your relationship to the Gotobed's is, perhaps we have a connection?
