« on: Monday 13 November 17 15:30 GMT (UK) »
Hi All.
Joseph Heap born Bolton Lancashire was my 3 x G/Grandfather who served with the 52nd Foot Regiment from May 1812 to March 1817. He was awarded the Military General Service Medal 1793-1814 with five clasps which were stated as Vitt, P. SS. O. J. Could some kind person please tell me what battles the abbreviations stand for.

Hi Harry.
On Josephs service record it states he was awarded two years for Waterloo with the 52nd foot regiment, would he have received the Waterloo medal for this.
He left the 52nd regiment on the 24th March 1817 and then the next day enlisted with the 29th foot regiment at Chocgues in France, and served with them until he was discharged in August 1823 due to failing eyesight.
Regards Dave.

Hi Harry.
I have now found out that Joseph served at Waterloo with the 52nd Foot Regiment in Captain W Rowan's Company, and on his discharge in 1824 from the 29th Foot Regiment he then became a Chelsea Pensioner.
Many thanks for all your help with this post.
Dave.
