Harriet Jordan, daughter of Harriet
« on: Friday 17 November 17 07:18 GMT (UK) »
Harriet was born in Whitby, according to the census, and married James Tindale in 1895, Middlesbrough. On the 1911 census her 72-year-old mother, Harriet Jordon, is living in their household. But I can't seem to find anyone who matches this on the 1881 or 1891 censuses. There's a birth record for a Harriet Jordan, born 1871, who's probably my Harriet, but GRO has no mother's maiden name listed.

Thank you for your good help.

unless you give full details of the 1871 birth we have no idea which resource you used or if we should expect to see the babe on 1871 census.

So young Harriet isn't going to be on 1871 census is she?

The Whitby-born 1871 Harriet Jordan is almost certain to be illegitimate, unless a mistake has been made in the transcription.

Purchasing the birth certificate would confirm.

Marriage image for James Stephen Tindale (23) and Harriet Jordan (23) gives father's name as James Jordan (deceased) Sailor.

So Emma is a sister or half sister to Harriet.  She was born before 1871 but the family are elusive in 1871/1881/1891.

Mother Harriet is down as a spinster so bit confusing.
In 1861 she is a servant age 22 unmarried.
