Update. John Taylor Wilson d.1895 is my John...thank you so much.
He m. Margaret Agnes Nicholson b.1851 Whitehaven Cumberland (her family moved to Toxteth Park, Lancashire). John was a railway guard (his father Alexander J. was involved with the railways). They had 3 children..Alexander John Wilson (named after his grandfather), George Nicholson Wilson and Francis Harker Wilson. Margaret d. 1918 in Bramley.
John's b/c record still a mystery though. The family were in Fife on 1851 census and Carlisle on 1861 census so searched both Scotland and Uk records again. It will pop up one day.
John's father Alexander J. was in Leeds 1871 census and Lancashire 1881 census so areas all seem to tie in.
Thank you again.

Yay! Hooray! and other exclamations of joy.

Now all you need for Christmas is his birth record.

All the best
Philip

A Happy New Year to you and yours, Phillip.

A lot of my Wilson forebears' records are so elusive but I'll keep plodding on.
