1810 marriage - what is the brides surname
« on: Saturday 09 December 17 03:18 GMT (UK) »
can anyone help me to work out what the potential spellings would be for the surname of the bride - looks like Chifsell or is it Chissell or ..... I havent hand any luck searching on the various ideas I have come up with.  She was born mid 1780s in Essex but I dont have a town as she only appears on the 1841 census.

Definitely:  Chissell

It's the long-s as first of a double-s.

Bit of a long shot but there's a Hannah CHIGWELL christened Bulmer, Essex in 1789. Perhaps someone with local knowledge could say whether Chissell and Chigwell were ever variants of the one name.  :-\ Anyway, might be worth checking out.
