Incomplete and deleted entry in Manchester baptism record.
« on: Wednesday 13 December 17 20:49 GMT (UK) »
I have found an incomplete and deleted entry in the Manchester Church of England Births and Baptisms, 1813-1915. Can anyone shed light on the significance of the deletion and incomplete entry? Anyone encountered similar entries? Was this register prepared pre or post event?

Details:
Samuel Simpson
24 Nov 1867
Miles Platting, St. John the Evangelist, Manchester.
Parents: John and Bathsheba Simpson
Ref: M194/1/1/1
Item 5
Archive roll 864

What do you mean by deleted and incomplete, as it does not look any different to the other entries around it?

Sorry about the size - do not know how I managed that, I had cropped it.

If you look across the page to number 1898, that is the one which is referred to as incomplete.

But that one was not November 24th.

Sorry, there seems to be a discrepancy between what appears on the actual page and what appears on the transcript that appears when you view the record on Ancestry. Why I don't know.

As the record for Samuel's birth appears later in the register, I am now presuming it was just an error or cancellation. Just never encountered one like this before.

Thanks for your help.

Perhaps several entries were being added at once to this book/ledger, and Samuel's entry was added out of turn. Midway through writing this was realised, crossed out (wrong date for this baptism!), and then the entry was added in its proper place on the next page.

Thanks jorose.
Yes, probably a simple error. Hadn't thought about multiple entries at one time.
