How do I purchase copies of Northumberland parish entries?
« on: Monday 18 December 17 20:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I'm looking to purchase a copy of a baptism entry in a Northumberland parish (I have the name of the parish, name of the child, name of the parents and the year of birth).

I believe that the Northumberland Records Office is located at http://www.experiencewoodhorn.com/. However, it's not obvious to me which (if any) service I can use to purchase a baptism entry.

Would anyone who has had experience with this, please point me in the right direction?

Thanks

What date and what parish? There are some Northumberland entries available online.

If you give us the details of the parish and year, there are various options.
1 Northumberland archives
http://www.experiencewoodhorn.com/file/uploaded/Revised%20Searchroom%20Price%20List%20December%202016_3.pdf
That link takes you to the copying charges  details. If you are still unsure then an email enquiry , with details, will get you a quote for either copying from microfilm or a digital scan.

another option, if they have the microfilms digitised, is to visit an LDS Family History centre where you can view the parish registers on the centres computers. The cost will probably be free and, in my experience, you can print off the relevant entry for free.
Without knowing which parish I can't check to see if the LDS have digitised the original microfim.

You could also try FreeReg https://www.freereg.org.uk/

Woodhorn closes tomorrow until 3rd January I think. They are also quite expensive for research. Try asking, with all details, someone might just look it up for you when they are at Woodhorn:-)

The look up can be done when I am back to Woodhorn in the new year but if the OP wants a copy it will have to be applied for in person as Woodhorn's copyright forms are very stringent. However it would save the cost of research if the actual page number and location can be given to them so they can go straight to the record.  Let us know who/where/when.

I just realised that the above post could be a bit misleading - I don't mean that you have to attend Woodhorn in person.  It can be done by post but the person who wants the copy must complete and sign the form.  It can't be done by someone else.

Boo knows how it's done  :)
