James Ash "A Seaman" Married 1808, in Stoke Damerel.
« on: Wednesday 20 December 17 18:29 GMT (UK) »
Hello There,

I can't quite read what it says for the above person on the original marriage register.
He married Agnes Toope in Stoke Damerel, on the 8th of August 1808.
It is the top line of the original image that I can't quite read. It seems to be written above some of the printed words.
All I can read on the top line is:
"James Ash, a Seaman."
I wander if the following words state the name of the ship that he was on?
From what I can see, it doesn't appear to be the name of his parish, but not quite sure.
Here is the link to the original image on Find My Past. It is under "Devon Marriages.":
https://search.findmypast.co.uk/results/united-kingdom-records-in-birth-marriage-death-and-parish-records?firstname=james&firstname_variants=true&lastname=ash&yearofmarriage=1808&yearofmarriage_offset=2&yearofbirth=1780&yearofbirth_offset=5&keywordsplace=devon

James was one of my 5x great granddad's. I'm not sure when he was born, but I think it was around 1780.

They had at least eight children baptised in Marlborough, Devon, between 1808-1823. Two of them, Mary in 1810, and Edward in 1819, had the middle Christian name of Toope. The oldest one, James, was my 4x great granddad. He was a Coast Guard at Sidmouth, in the 1851 census.

Anyway, if anyone has any information regarding the above it would be gratefully accepted.

Thank you very much.  :) ;)

As you have access to FindMyPast I presume you have seen the baptism in Stoke Damerel of James Ash in 1780, parents William and Magdalen?

Yes, Thank you very much.
I think I came across that at the Library today.
James Ash, was buried at Marlborough, Devon in 1823. His residence was put down as Galmpton. But it did not give his age on the burial.
His Wife Agnes was born in 1789 in West Alvington. She did not die until 1875.

Cheers.  :)

There was also a James Ash baptised at Marlborough in 1782.
