Register Ofice in Leigh?
« on: Friday 22 December 17 15:28 GMT (UK) »
Hello folks,
I am helping someone with their family history & they are from Lancashire (not a County I am familiar with sadly) so can you help me with finding the address of the local Register Office where we can apply for a 1903 birth in LEIGH please??? Plus is the fee for a certificate still £9.25p.
Thank you in advance for your help...
Margaret.

Your best bet is to order the certificate direct from GRO - £9.25 and no postage.  I understand that a .pdf version costs £6.00 but I haven't personally tried that.

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

You will have to register - but it's very easy.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!

The Register Office covering the Leigh area is Wigan and Leigh who charge £15

Two very good Lancashire websites but I would also suggest the GRO for purchasing the certificate.

The link BumbleB has given you will also show mothers maiden name on the index.  I have ordered PDF's for family history purposes from the GRO and they are exactly the same image it is just not printed onto a 'certificate' template.

Thank you all so much, really appreciate your help. I think we will avoid Wigan & their fee of £15.00 for a certificate. The GRO is looking good value for money...
