Thomas Martin & Nancy Carr parents
« on: Thursday 11 January 18 22:47 GMT (UK) »
This is what I know about them:
Thomas Martin was born in 1773.  He died on September 30, 1841.
Nancy Carr was born in 1784. She died on October 14, 1855.

I don't know where they were born or if even in the US but their daughter, Mary Martin was born 1807 in North Carolina.
Any info on their parents would be helpful! Thanks.

Slight difference in dates  ??? Thomas W. Martin b ca 1787, married Nancy Carr in Stokes County, North  Carolina.  (Thomas W. and Nancy Carr-Martin are the progenitors of the Obion, County, Tennessee, Martins; Mansfield, Arkansas Martins and the Stephenville, Texas Martins)

http://www.oocities.org/genjosmartin/dariel.html

Thomas W. Martin, the third son of General Joseph Martin and our progenitor was born ca 1787 in Henry County, Virginia.   Not much is know about Thomas Martin until he married Nancy Carr on January 20, 1812, in Stokes County, North Carolina.  Nancy was the daughter of John Fendall Carr (Revolutionary War Veteran) and Elizabeth Dalton.  Thomas W. Martin, Nancy Carr-Martin and their first three children, i.e. Patrick Henry Martin; John F. Martin and Joseph Martin moved to Maury County, Tennessee, around 1820.  Thomas W. Martin died a fairly young man ca 1829 at the age of 42 in Maury County, Tennessee. Nancy Carr-Martin was given guardianship of the children and continued raising them without re-marrying (at least there is no record that she did).  I believe the Carr's and the Martin's were well acquainted in North Carolina, possibly neighbours and maybe attended the same church.  Thomas was listed as a Farmer in the federal census of 1820, Maury County, Tennessee.

Yeah, something doesn't quite add up with some of those dates. May not be the same people.
The Thomas Martin I'm looking for apparently has a death date of 30 Sep 1841 (at 68 years old) and Nancy Carr's is 14 Oct 1855 (at 71 years and 26 days old) both buried at Crandall, Harrison County, Indiana, USA.
Also, their daughter, Mary Martin Thomas is said to have been born 1807 in North Carolina, not 1827.
So I don't know what to say!
Another conflicting piece of info is that on General Joseph Martin's Wikipedia page, it says (speaking of his children):

"Another Martin son, and veteran of the War of 1812, was Thomas Martin. He also moved to Middle Tennessee where he married Georgia Carr (daughter of Dabney Carr). Alexander Martin, another son and veteran of the War of 1812, also moved to Middle Tennessee. He married Elizabeth Carr (daughter of John Fyndall Carr, also a Tennessean from Virginia), and after some years, moved to Missouri. "

It doesn't even say anything about a Nancy Carr, daughter of John Fyndall/Fendall Carr. So confusing!

It also says this on his Wiki page:

"The Native Indian connection of two members of the Martin family has created some confusion for some Martin genealogy researchers; Gen. Joseph Martin's brother, Capt. John "Jack" Calvin Martin, Sr., of his N.C. Rock House Plantation, a.k.a. Rock Castle Plantation, is often confused with his brother Gen. Joseph Martin."
