William Clancy b1866 - Brompton
« on: Saturday 20 January 18 12:26 GMT (UK) »
Good afternoon all,

This is a bit of a shot in the dark here..

Those who are able to navigate the data better than I, could you possibly have a quick look at tracking down any reference to William Clancy. I have him from his birth in 1866 / 67 through to the 1891 censes (which ancestry incorrect transcribe as 'Lancy').   After that I lose all trace, I have found his brothers and sisters without to much trouble after then and it would appear they all stayed relatively local.  The last address I have for him is:

20 Yeomans road, Brompton, Kensington, Middlesex, London (take your pick).  The row of houses was demolished in 1895.

His birth was St John, Middlesex and his parents names were William and Catherine.  If anybody can throw some ideas that would be great.

Family information from 1881 below if that helps.

Many thanks for your help.

Those are entries from the GRO birth index with Mother's maiden name.

and the likely marriage of the parents in 1858.

Good find Candrjm

Matches occupation in 1891.  I also found what I think is his daughter Ada's marriage:-

Marriages Dec 1915
Barnard    Albert    Clancy    Romford    4a   1532
Clancy    Ada E    Barnard     Romford    4a   1532

Right registration district for where the family are in 1901.

England: Devon, London, New Zealand
Holdway: Wiltshire
Hooper: Bristol, Somerset
Knowling: Devon, London
Southcott: Devon, China
Strong: Wiltshire
Watson: Cambridgeshire

Thanks for you help guys although I think we have turned down the wrong road. Willam is recorded on the 1891 census as being single. To find this on Ancestry you need to search for surname Lancy as incorrectly transcribed from Clancy. In 1891 he is still at the family home of Yeomans Row.

I found the below from the 1911 census that could be a match but too much of a guess at this time.

Good evening,

I thought I would try my luck again and refresh this thread as I came to a dead end. I was trying to track down was happened to William Clancy b.1866 - St John Middlesex after the 1891 censes which has his address as 20 Yeomans road Brompton. (He is recorded as Lancy on this Census in error)

There was a rumour the family returned to Ireland to fight for indepence but alas I have no record and his family, if they did travel, appear all to have returned to the uk by 1900.

Any help is appreciated.

Kind Regards
